Cantos del Pueblo (Chants of people) were founded in 1987 in Lima / Peru and is well known and popular in wide parts of South America since that
time. First successes appeared in 1991 with their composition ''Cumbres''. This song got the very popular television award ''TAKI''.
Their composition ''El Llanto de la Paloma'' became the ''Song of the yea'r'' in 1992.
